Happen to have a cover for your hot tub? The importance of selecting a proper hot tub cover cannot be stressed enough. Maybe you’re buying your first hot tub and you’re not sure which cover to buy. Or maybe you are replacing an old worn that is worn out, faded, and ugly. Either way, let’s get into some of the details of hot tub covers so you can better select the right hot tub cover for you.
The very first piece of criteria that you will want to look at is the thickness and density of your foam core. Selecting a cover with the appropriate amount of foam is very dependent on where you live. For an indoor hot tub, you can go with the cheapest option. These come with a one pound core that is tapered and goes from four inches at its thickest to two and a half inches at its thinnest. From there, your options gradually increase until you reach the densest core that comes in at two pounds. The thickest part of this core is five inches and tapers down to three inches. You would want this type of cover if you planned on your hot tub being covered in snow at any point.
The next item that you’ll want to look into is the vapor barrier in your cover. The quality of the vapor barrier is a factor to consider when you don’t want water collecting between the material in the foam. When deciding on which hot tub cover you are going to buy, make sure to inquire about the quality of the vapor barrier in your cover. This ensures that your spa is getting the best care available.
The last thing to research when buying your hot tub cover is the vinyl layer itself. This is the outside material of your cover that will have direct contact with the elements. The sun is the number one destroyer of this aspect of the cover, so it is important to make sure that you are purchasing the highest quality possible. This will allow the rest of the components inside of the cover to work to their best ability for as long as possible.
Remember to take your time when selecting your hot tub cover because it is the first line of defense for your spa. If you want your spa to last, make sure that the cover will last just as long. If you have any questions, please call your local dealer and they can send you in the right direction depending on your spa’s needs.

Enzymes are biological agents that reduce the organic load in your tub. The organic load is the buildup of organic material in the tub and plumbing coming from your body as well as algae, bacteria, etc. It can include bodily oils, makeup, deodorant, lotions, dead skin, shampoo and even laundry detergent.
Enzymes function by acting as catalysts to the breakdown of the organic material, thereby reducing the strain on your spa’s filtering equipment and allowing you to use less chemical cleaning agents.
Poorly maintained spa water can lead to clogged filters, circulation pump and heater problems. Overall, your spa runs more efficiently in balanced water and prevents deterioration of pump seals. Enzymes enable you to balance your water more efficiently.
These enzymes are biological in nature and also eco-friendly. Plus you have the added benefit of not worrying about chemical effects on your bathers’ skin or eyes. Reap the benefits of natural spa water care with Waters Choice enzyme treatment.

Most pool and spa cleaning products are similar in that they use tons of powerful chemicals to disinfect water. Unfortunately, these harsh chemicals not only harm bad bacteria and viruses, but they also harm our loved ones and us as well! This is what makes Waters Choice so different, unique, and better. Our products use the powerful cleaning power of enzymes to help make sure your water is perfectly clean, while drastically reducing the amount of unwanted chemicals your family is exposed to. Here is some great information about the power of our enzyme treatment for pools and spas.
Enzymes are natural, biodegradable, and organic. Enzymes also break down oils and aid in the filtration process to remove unnecessary metals and minerals. Enzymes leave your water feeling like actual fresh water. Enzymes and Chlorine are a great two-layer sanitation system for swimming pool water, but since enzymes do all the hard work, Chlorine demand goes down to .5-1 PPM (typical chlorine pools operate with 3-5 PPM chlorine). Not only can you keep a smaller residual, it takes a lot less chlorine to do so. Chlorine just simply isn’t being used up as quickly, so swimmers are exposed to much less of it. Our products help make sure your pool and spa water is completely clean, amazingly fresh, fantastically healthy, and amazingly gentle on skin. You will love the way your water feels after using Waters Choice, and swimming in your pool will feel like swimming in a natural spring. You should enjoy swimming in your pool with water that feels like actual fresh water. If you are sick of the way your pool water makes you feel, you need to try out our products. You have tried the other kind of sanitizes, now come see what you have been missing!
The cleaning power of enzymes can be used to make your pool and spa feel incredibly clean, fresh, and amazing. Enzymes are such an amazing tool for pool and spa maintenance because they are effective at cleaning, but also completely natural.
The best pools have enzymes and chlorine. For crystal clear water with a lot less chemicals, use Waters Choice! If you would like to learn more about our fantastic products, contact us today!
With the New Year upon us, it’s time to welcome a stress-free year by implementing your hot tub into your daily routine. Hot Tubs have been scientifically shown to reduce stress. With a hot tub, we can help you alleviate and manage stress that is a part of your everyday life to help make sure you are feeling better as well as suffering from less stress related damage to your body. Here are some important benefits of soaking in a hot tub, and ways that it will help you reduce your stress level.
Studies have shown the benefits of raising your body temperature for 15-20 minutes a day as a cure for sleeplessness and insomnia. If you get more sleep, you will feel more rested and this will reduce the amount of stress you feel during the day.
Hot tubs can increase circulation which relieves muscle and joint pain in many cases, even arthritis. Having relaxed muscles that are free of pain is a crucial way to feel better, and reduce stress throughout the day. If you feel better physically, you will be much less stressed.
Relaxing in warm water can help to release endorphin, which is similar to the feeling you get after a long run or bike run. When your body releases endorphin, it gives you an almost euphoric feeling, and this is an amazing boost in your emotional state. You will be more relaxed, less anxious, less depressed, and less stressed.
The warm water and massage provided by the jets in a hot tub can reduce headaches and tension. Headaches are stressful, so this powerful tool to relieve pain and tension will make you feel much better.
The buoyancy of the water allows for relief on joints and lower back pain leading to relaxation and better sleeping patterns. Once again, hot tubs are fantastic for helping you feel relaxed and rested.
Hot tubs are proven to relax you, and this is crucial for starting the New Year off right. Make it your New Year resolution to use your hot tub as often as possible to bring a joyful and stress-free 2017. If you would like to learn more about how to properly maintain your hot tub, contact us today!
Do people drain their spa in the winter? If they do, maybe they shouldn’t because it could potentially be when a spa would get the most use! There are fewer things more satisfying than sitting in a nice hot tub on a cold winter evening. However, there are a few precautions you should take to have a winter season of relaxation and bliss in your hot tub, so make sure to use these great tricks for wintertime fun in your spa!
Know Your Hot Tub
Knowing your hot tub can help you make the best winter preparations. Know your hot tub controls, and the diagnostic messages and warnings (or at least know where your owner’s manual is).
Stock up on Waters Choice
Winter is not the time to run out of your favorite enzyme. Dealing with icky water during cold weather really puts a damper on enjoying the hot tub experience.
Power Outages and Water Levels
If you lose power during the winter months, make sure you keep the insulated cover on the hot tub. If the power outage persists, a good trick is to setup a working light in the power pack compartment of your hot tub. The heat generated should keep your power pack from freezing.
Keep an eye on your tub water level. Low water levels can cause your pumps to quit functioning, the water in the tub to freeze, and damage to not only the hot tub but also to the plumbing fixtures and parts. Assure that the tub maintains its temperature so the piping does not freeze.
Getting to the hot tub
You should also have somewhere to place your clothing, footwear, and other belongings in the area closest to your hot tub. This will keep them warm and dry while you enjoy your time in the spa. An outdoor towel warmer would be a wonderful addition to your spa experience knowing that it will be very cold once you leave the heat of your spa. You may also want to wear some type of hat or headgear to keep your hair dry while using the tub.
Clear pathway for safety
Be sure to keep a clear path to your tub. Be sure to keep ice and/or snow off your path for safety reasons. Also use a good soft bristle broom to remove snow and ice from the top of your hot tub cover (No shovels or hard metal objects as they may damage the vinyl on the cover). You do not want snow and ice to accumulate on the top of your cover over the winter, or you may have to replace it in the spring.
Yes, winter can be cold, but with these tips, you can enjoy soaking in your spa all year long. Using your spa on a cold winter evening is a fantastic way to relax, and you will absolutely love it! If you would like to learn more about how to properly maintain your pool and spa, contact us today!
Why do we say “aahh” and everything around us starts to feel better when we enter our hot tub? According to Dr. Bruce Becker, a psychiatrist, researcher and author, our body is intuitive and that the body knows what’s good for it.
Dr. Becker and his team discovered immersion in water lowered blood pressure, helped strengthen respiratory muscles, increased blood flow to muscles and joints, promoted relaxation and may even improve sleep patterns. The more you soak the better you feel. Where else can you escape 90 percent of the earth’s gravity? You cannot do that anywhere else on the planet except for in water. And just think about what that does to your joints and muscles and your whole skeletal structure.
So the next time you sit in your spa, remember it isn’t just about relaxation or stress relief, both good things for the mind; soaking does amazing things for the body too!
What’s your favorite part about sitting in your spa?
24 hours in a day. For active adults like us, it’s never enough. At Waters Choice, we believe you should be able to spend less time doing things like taking care of your spa water and more time relaxing in it. We have designed our products to save you precious time by minimizing the products used and how often you have to add it. Four things a month- THAT’S IT!
1-Add one bottle of 12 oz Spa Water Polish (it may be helpful to purchase multiple bottles and write the future dates on each bottle)
Add one capful of 2 oz Spa Treatment every other week
2-Using a test strip, Check pH and alkalinity and adjust if necessary
3-Add Sanitizer as recommended
4-Clean filter. The more often you clean your filter, the better your spa performs.
How simple is that?!
Now that you have don’t have to spend so much time taking care of your spa water what activities are you doing? We are interested in knowing.
We have all been there before. After a strenuous day working, exercising, or being on your feet, you come home or wake up with extreme soreness. Being sore is a sign that you have exerted your body to its limits, and it can be extremely uncomfortable in severe cases. Luckily, if you own a hot tub, you have a great tool at your disposal to help relieve your soreness, and start recovering more quickly. Here are 4 of the main reasons why a hot tub relieves soreness, and to help you feel better.
1) You are more buoyant and weightless- Throughout the day our joints, muscles, and bones are put under a lot of stress from supporting our body weight, and keeping us upright as we move and work. When you spend a lot of time on your feet, it is natural to become sore from the constant work your body is doing to function. However, when you relax in a hot tub you are much more buoyant, and you will give your body a chance to rest and recover without having to support as much weight. This reduced workload will help you feel better, and relieve some of the soreness you are feeling.
2) Improves blood flow to sore areas- The heat from the hot tub will help increase your circulation, and this added blood movement will help your body recover more quickly. When your body is exposed to the warm water, your blood vessels will begin to dilate, and this is what creates the improved blood flow in the body. This will result in your body healing more quickly, and a much better overall feeling when you are done in the tub.
3) Massage out soreness- In addition to the heat of the water causing better circulation, the movement of the water from the jets can also help you recover from soreness more quickly. The jets of a hot tub are excellent for helping massage your aching body, and this will help you get rid of lactic acid more quickly, and start feeling better in less time.
4) Mental relief- Sometimes when we are feeling sore, much of it is caused by emotional stress, and a sense of being overwhelmed. A hot tub is a great tool to help you relax, reduce your stress level, and just feel much better mentally. This boost in mental wellness will translate to less soreness, and you can continue your day with a better outlook.
Your hot tub is a great tool for relieving soreness, and helping you recover from a hard day. These are some of the top reasons why the hot tub will help you feel better, and why you should make sure to go for a soak when you are feeling sore and beat up. Summer is quickly coming to a close, but there is still enough time to send it out in style with an amazing pool party for your kids! There is no better way for your young ones to say goodbye to summer vacation than a huge pool party bash with their friends. If you decide to throw this pool party, there are some important things to consider to make sure it is fun for all of the children. Here is a great guide for how to plan an amazing, end of the year pool party for your kids and their friends!
Pick a theme- A standard pool party is a lot of fun, but adding an exciting theme can make it even better. Ask your kids which kind of theme they would like, and then go all out with it. You can pick anything from superheroes to princesses. Make sure to be creative, and have fun with it.
Invitations- You want to make sure your guests have adequate notice, and are aware of the details of the party, so be sure to send out some invitations. Their are plenty of ways to make the invites fun, and be sure to add in the theme so your guests can come prepared.
Decorations- Using decorations can help turn your backyard into the perfect party destination! Make sure to have your decorations coincide with the theme, and get creative with them. The kids will love it!
Games/activities- Make sure to have your activities and games planned out, so the kids have tons of options for entertainment. Ask your kids what they would like to play, and keep it fun!
Food- When throwing a party for kids, you are going to want to have some great food for them. Try to have a lot of options, and some simple choices for the kids with more picky appetites. Also, be aware of common allergens for kids, and either avoid them or label foods to let people know what they contain. Don’t forget the drinks, and to include some healthier options as well.
Parents- This party is meant for kids, but remember that it should be fun for attending parents as well. Provide some food and drinks that the parents will enjoy, and have some areas for them to congregate and talk to other adults.
An end of summer pool party is the perfect way for kids to say goodbye to this fun season. Make sure to follow these tips, and throw a great party. As always, make sure to be safe, and have an adult watching the kids at all times. If you would like to learn more about proper pool/spa maintenance, contact us today!
Having a beautiful, well-maintained pool is an excellent addition to any home. There are few things more noticeable in a yard than a crystal clear pool. However, a poorly maintained pool can make a yard seem disgusting, and can be quite an eyesore. One of the most frustrating things for pool owners is to come out to their pool looking green, and full of algae. Sometimes, it can be difficult to determine what is causing this problem, but here are 3 common reasons why your pool might have turned green.
Phosphates- One of the most common reasons pools get algae is because there are large amounts of phosphates present. Phosphates enter the water through hair and self care products, organic pollutants like leaves and dirt, pool chemicals, and many more sources. Phosphates are a natural draw for algae, and help it feed and grow more quickly. This creates that disgusting green coloring in pool water, and you will need to use a phosphate remover to get rid of it. If you suspect that your pool might have a phosphate problem, click HERE to learn more about our testing kit!
Nitrates- This pollutant is similar to phosphates, but they are more naturally occurring and organic. Typically, nitrates form anywhere that plants are, and in fertilizer. If your pool is surrounded by fertilized plant life, it is very easy for nitrates to enter your water. If you see that your water has a green tint, make sure to test for nitrates. Unfortunately, nitrates are difficult to remove, so if you have this problem, you will need to drain some water from the pool. If your pool is at 10 ppm of nitrates, drain half the pool and start over. If your water is at 20 ppm, drain the entire pool and start over. This will help solve this problem, and get your pool properly balanced.
Cyanuric Acid- This is a stabilizer for chlorine in the pool when it is exposed to sunlight, and when used correctly, can dramatically increase the effectiveness of your chlorine. This acid is great for reducing the effect the sun can have on your chlorine levels, and can help save time and money in the pool maintenance process by reducing the amount of chlorine you need to keep your pool properly sanitized. However, when there is too much cyanuric acid present in the water, it can bind to your chlorine and make it work less effectively. This can allow for algae to grow because of a lack of sanitizing power, and give you cloudy water. If you test your pool and the cyanuric acid level is above 300 ppm, you will need to drain it, pressure wash the surfaces, and refill it.
The green tint can be a nightmare for pool owners, but if you can figure out the main causes, you will know where to start in fixing the problem. Make sure to check for these main causes at the first sign of algae growth. If you would like to learn more about how to properly maintain your pool, contact us today!
