Waters Choice Blog
It’s the time of year when most people living in Northern climates have Spring fever and begin to think about swimming. If you have ever gotten to pool-opening season to find that the water in your pool has turned green, know that you can prevent this from happening! Peel the cover back to see how your water is looking. If you are using Waters Choice, your water should be looking crystal clear. If you aren’t on our system and your water isn’t clear, add chlorine to the water to clear it up before it is time to open the pool. Remember with enzymes, you cut out your opening and closing chemicals. BIG savings!
Make sure to add your Waters Choice two weeks before you are ready to swim. When you open your pool or start the enzymes for the first time you add 2 ounces per 10,000 gallons of water the first and second week. Add 1/2 ounce per 10,000 gallons every week during the season.

It is important to watch the PH and alkalinity. They will tend to stay on the higher end of the scale and you will need to bring them down periodically. Maintain pH between 7.2 and 7.6 and alkalinity between 80 and 120. Maintain a minimum amount of chlorine.
We know winter-like weather may still rear it’s ugly head, but Summer is just around the corner. You will be swimming and enjoying the hot temperatures before you know it!
We love our pets. But sometimes they get into stuff that they are not supposed to- such as hot tub or pool chemicals. If your pet swallows Waters Choice enzyme products, they should be OK. Waters Choice enzymes are non-toxic. Always keep spa/pool chemicals out of your pet’s reach. A customer asked if it was OK for their pet to soak or swim with them. After a little research, we learned that the biggest health risk for any pet is drowning. Owners should always supervise pets when they are in the water. An average size dog is equal to three humans in terms of the stuff that they introduce into the hot tub or pool. Just know that you may have to increase your chemicals to keep up with the increase in bather load. Make sure your pH is balanced and clean filters consistently as pet hair will clog them quickly.
Your pet is part of your family. Just like a child, they need supervision. With monitoring, you can all enjoy a nice dip.

Most pool and spa cleaning products are similar in that they use tons of powerful chemicals to disinfect water. Unfortunately, these harsh chemicals not only harm bad bacteria and viruses, but they also harm our loved ones and us as well! This is what makes Waters Choice so different, unique, and better. Our products use the powerful cleaning power of enzymes to help make sure your water is perfectly clean, while drastically reducing the amount of unwanted chemicals your family is exposed to. Here is some great information about the power of our enzyme treatment for pools and spas.
Enzymes are natural, biodegradable, and organic. Enzymes also break down oils and aid in the filtration process to remove unnecessary metals and minerals. Enzymes leave your water feeling like actual fresh water. Enzymes and Chlorine are a great two-layer sanitation system for swimming pool water, but since enzymes do all the hard work, Chlorine demand goes down to .5-1 PPM (typical chlorine pools operate with 3-5 PPM chlorine). Not only can you keep a smaller residual, it takes a lot less chlorine to do so. Chlorine just simply isn’t being used up as quickly, so swimmers are exposed to much less of it. Our products help make sure your pool and spa water is completely clean, amazingly fresh, fantastically healthy, and amazingly gentle on skin. You will love the way your water feels after using Waters Choice, and swimming in your pool will feel like swimming in a natural spring. You should enjoy swimming in your pool with water that feels like actual fresh water. If you are sick of the way your pool water makes you feel, you need to try out our products. You have tried the other kind of sanitizes, now come see what you have been missing!
The cleaning power of enzymes can be used to make your pool and spa feel incredibly clean, fresh, and amazing. Enzymes are such an amazing tool for pool and spa maintenance because they are effective at cleaning, but also completely natural.
The best pools have enzymes and chlorine. For crystal clear water with a lot less chemicals, use Waters Choice! If you would like to learn more about our fantastic products, contact us today!
November is National Healthy Skin Care Month! Recently, Good Housekeeping released an article that discussed some of the most surprising things that could be damaging your skin. The number 1 thing that ruins your skin….drum-roll please… Too much Chlorine! People don’t realize how harmful, irritating, and corrosive chlorine is. Yes, it is an amazing sanitizer but at what cost? If there was a more natural and effective way to keep your pool water clean, wouldn’t you want to investigate it? Well now there is! Waters Choice is much better for your skin than chlorine is.
Waters Choice is a non-toxic alternative to traditional pool and spa water care. It uses a special blend of enzymes that are safe for your family, good for the environment, and easy on your wallet. Chlorine and salt suck the moisture right out of your skin, leaving it dry and dull. Waters Choice leaves your skin feeling soft and silky smooth without the use of harsh chemicals.
Our skin is our largest organ, so it is very important to take good care of it. Every time you enter a pool that is heavily treated with chlorine, you are damaging your skin and your health. Luckily, Waters Choice will vastly reduce the amount of harsh chemicals you are exposed to while you swim, and you will feel like you are swimming in natural water. We know that your family’s health is extremely important to you, so make sure they are swimming in the healthiest water possible, and you will all have better looking and feeling skin!
Waters Choice is a much better choice for your skin health then heavily treating your pool and spa with chlorine, and you will instantly start to feel the difference. We love knowing that our products are making a positive impact on the health of our customers, and truly care about what we do. Did you know that not everyone closes their pool for the winter? Many people decide to keep their pools open year round, and make sure they are available for use in the colder months A heater for the pool will prolong the enjoyment and benefits of using a pool during the cold months, and help make sure you get to enjoy your investment for longer periods of time. If you decide to keep your pool heated year round so you can use it, it is important to maintain your regular water care maintenance routine that you use during the summer months. If you do not want to use a heater in your pool, watching the water is a relaxing and therapeutic experience on those sunny, albeit cooler, winter days, so you may want to keep the pool open even if you are not planning on swimming in it. If you are looking to enjoy your pool during all seasons, but are not going to use a heater, the following tips will help you save both time and money to do so. The very first thing you should do is create a new, reduced maintenance schedule for your pool.
1) Keep your pool water pH levels between 7.2 and 7.8 parts per million (ppm)
Add 1 ounce per 10,000 gallons of water every 6 weeks of Waters Choice Pool Treatment
2) Keep your free available chlorine between .5 and 1.0 ppm
3) Vacuum and skim your pool of debris as needed
4) Cut your filter-running time in half
These tips will allow you to keep your pool open all season long, so that you may enjoy your family pool even in the cooler months. Just because it isn’t summer anymore, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t get to take advantage of your swimming pool! Do you keep your pool open all year long?

The weather outside is starting to cool down, the leaves are changing color, and the number of days you have left to use your pool this season are dwindling. You will soon need to winterize your pool. Remember if you hire a pool professional who may not be familiar with Waters Choice, make sure they do not add all the costly traditional chemicals. You do NOT need them! But you DO need to add Waters Choice each week for two weeks prior to closing. Add 2 ounces per 10,000 gallons of water 2 weeks in a row BEFORE you close your pool. This will make your opening process much easier.
Do you have any tips or tricks you would like to share with us about winterizing your pool? We would love to hear about them.
The fall season is nearly upon us, and that means it is the perfect time to throw an incredible hot tub party with your friends. A hot tub party is the perfect way to spend any crisp fall night, and your guests will have a blast. However, there are some things to consider when throwing a party in your spa to make sure it goes smoothly. Here are some important tips for throwing an amazing hot tub party!
1) Make sure your spa is clean and properly maintained- The first thing you need to do when deciding to throw a hot tub party is to make sure your spa is properly prepared for guests. The last thing you want to do is have guests show up, and realize your hot tub is dirty and not suitable for soaking in. Make sure to properly balance the pH level of the water, remove all debris, and add the right amount of sanitizer to make sure it is ready to go.
2) Prepare the guest list- One important thing to remember about a hot tub party is that you have limited room in the spa, so make sure you do not invite too many people. A huge damper on your spa party can be having guests unable to enjoy the spa, and simply sitting on the deck. Make sure to properly plan out who to invite to your get together, and make sure each guest is fun to be around. Don’t invite people that will bring down the group’s good time.
3) Plan out food and beverages- A good hot tub party definitely needs snacks and drinks! Plan to have some great food available for your guests, and make sure everyone has enough beverages to have fun. Make sure to have some water bottles, non-alcoholic drinks, and if you are serving alcohol, remember that sitting in hot water can cause alcohol to affect the body more rapidly.
4) Prepare non hot tub related activities- Chances are people will not be able to spend the entire length of the gathering in the hot water, so make sure you have some backup activities ready. Also, make sure to provide extra towels and swimsuits just in case guests show up unprepared.
5) Entertainment- A hot tub party should definitely have some background music, and make sure you select songs that are right for the setting. If it is just a few friends gathered for some conversation, pick softer music. If you are planning an all out party then play some dance songs. Be prepared! Another good option for entertainment is to bring the TV outside and have movie night in the tub, or play the game while comfortably soaking! Have fun with it.
Waters Choice is helping change the way people maintain their pools and spas. Traditional pool and spa maintenance products can not keep up with our revolutionary enzyme treatment system. Waters Choice products have several advantages over standard pool/spa products, and here are some of the most important ones.
1) Fewer harsh chemicals/healthier- Waters Choice products use natural enzymes to help clean your pool and spa, and this allows you to use drastically lower amounts of chemicals in your water. Nothing is more important than your health. Sitting in a spa or swimming in a pool filled with harsh chemicals is counterproductive to the healthy act of swimming.
Think of both the short and long term effects of breathing in chemicals, having them cover, and often dry out, our skin; burn our eyes, and make our hair dry, discolored and frizzy.
These chemicals are also harsh on the environment when we empty spa or pool water onto the ground or into sewers. Think of how many pools and spas there are in North America alone, and the effect all that chemical infused water can have on our soil and water systems. Our products allow you to enjoy water in a more natural state, and you will feel much healthier because of it.
2) Less maintenance time- Waters Choice requires much less work than traditional pool chemicals to function correctly. We know you are busy, and you do not have an unlimited amount of time to make sure your pool and spa are properly balanced. With Waters Choice you’ll cut your water maintenance schedule to twice a month, while keeping your water cleaner than other products. You can reduce the need to refill your spa from every 3 months to as little as once a year. Stop wasting more time than you need to checking your pool and spa, and spend more time enjoying them!
3) More affordable- Waters Choice is more affordable than traditional products in the long run because you will need less sanitizer, less maintenance on your pool equipment, and will need to drain your pool and spa less frequently.
4) Fresher water- Because Waters Choice requires fewer chemicals, your water will feel much more natural and fresh. Additionally, Waters Choice is more efficient at cleaning water, so you will have cleaner, fresher, and healthier water.
Waters Choice is a revolutionary line of pool and spa treatment products that have a lot of benefits over traditional products. If you would like to learn more about properly maintaining your pool/spa, contact us today!

It is official! Summer is underway, and that means sun, outdoors, and best of all, pool parties! Now that the pool party season is underway, it is important to brush up on some of the ways to assure a successful, fun, and great pool party. In this entry, we will discuss some of the good and bad choices of what to serve for food at your pool party.
Do Grill- Nothing screams pool party quite like grilling. Firing up the grill is a great choice because it is simple, fast, and delicious. Additionally, using the grill allows you to stay outside, and still be in the party while cooking. If you want to stay extremely simple and laid back, you can go with hot dogs and burgers, which most people love. If you want to take it a step further, you can grill some steak, chicken, fish, or almost anything else. Always remember to be smart with condiments you lay out, and provide several options, so people can choose for themselves how to build their meals. Be creative!
Don’t cook too much in the kitchen- While I am sure you have a great recipe that you can make in the oven, you do not want to spend too much time in the kitchen away from your guests. Get outside, and enjoy the party.
Do provide several drink options- Everyone has different preferences when it comes to drinks, so make sure to provide different options for soda, beer, wine, mixed drinks, juice, and anything else you serve. Variety is the spice of life. Also, make sure to have plenty of fresh water available, so people can hydrate while spending time in the sun.
Don’t use a lot of glass- Try to avoid setting out glass whenever possible. You may like your beer better in a bottle, but having glass around the pool with bare feet, pool equipment, and the fact that it’s nearly impossible to find if it gets to the pool bottom is a recipe for disaster. Use cans, and plastic dishes.
Do serve fruit- Fruit is a great, refreshing, healthy and delicious snack that everyone will love. There is something special about fresh melon on a hot day by the pool. Make sure to chop it up, and make the fruit easy to just grab and eat.
Don’t make food hard to eat- When people are around the pool, it is important to make sure there is food that they can just grab and eat. Pool parties are active, and people are moving around a lot, and it can be difficult to sit down and eat a meal with a fork and knife. Try to keep foods easy to eat quickly with the hands. Some good choices besides the grilled foods, and fruit are crackers and cheese, chips and dip, veggie platters, sandwich platters, and similar type foods. Also, remember that these foods will be outside in the sun, so plan accordingly. Deviled eggs are great, but they may not be a good choice to just stick out in the hot sun for several hours. Plan ahead!
Pool parties are a blast, and selecting the right food to serve can make a huge difference in the success of the party. Make sure to follow these suggestions to assure a great one! To learn more about how to properly keep your pool and spa clean for the party, contact us today!
