So you’ve decided that you want to own your first hot tub. Maybe you’ve tried some different models out or your friend has one that you kind of enjoy. How do you know what hot tub is right for you? There’s a bunch of different models out there, but there’s also different types of hot tubs as well. Let’s go over some of the basics so that you can get started on narrowing down your selection to a certain model.
The most common type of hot tub that you’ll see around is your above ground premade spa. These are typically created using acrylic, plastic, or fiberglass. These can be as cheap as $2,000, but the average price is around $5,000. These hot tubs are your bread and butter of spas, but don’t make your selection just yet. There’s still a few more choices to go over before making your final decision.
A variation of the above ground premade spa is the inflatable hot tub. This is a much cheaper version and can be picked up for under $1,000. The tubes are typically made of vinyl and while easy to set up anywhere, can become damaged just as easily. The material doesn’t tend to stand up over time and this is most likely a temporary hot tub until you get something more permanent. Sometimes people shy away from these because they can resemble a kid’s blow up pool.
Your next option is actually quite interesting. A wooden hot tub is a great option that is worth looking into. Wooden spas can be assembled anywhere because they are created on site. They also come in at about the same price range as your typical premade plastic spa. These can be heated with gas, wood, or electricity. Some people enjoy these spas more than a typical premade because of their overall look.
Finally, there is the in-ground spa. These are more expensive usually costing over $10,000, but will be a permanent part of the residence forever. Sadly, you will not be able to take this with you if you decide to move. This is a great choice if you want to raise the value of your home or if you plan on living there for awhile.
There’s a quick run down of your four different choices when selecting your first hot tub. Now it’s time to do the more difficult part of selecting your first hot tub and narrowing it down to a specific model. Good luck with your hot tub shopping!
Everyone knows owning a hot tub can be a lot of fun. You can relax in it, share it with your significant other, or throw a party in it. There are so many exciting things to do with your spa, but why do some people shy away from owning one? Many people believe that hot tubs can be a pain to maintain, but they’re actually fairly simple and straightforward. Below are some basic tips to maintaining your hot tub. If you follow these steps, you’ll soon realize that owning your own hot tub is more fun than it is work.
One of the main factors in maintenance that you will want to focus on is circulation. If you can, you should run your circulation system at least once a day. This moves the water inside of your spa around and puts unwanted debri in the water into your filter. The next part of this step is cleaning the filter. Try and take your filter out once a week and spray it with a hose. This will keep the filter working properly and you will be able to continue to circulate clean water.
The next procedure that you will have to go through is draining, cleaning, and refilling your hot tub. This should be done at least once every four months, but it is also a fairly simple process. You can call the manufacturer of your hot tub to ask how to best clean their tub, but most of them are fairly similar. First, you will drain your spa and clean out the filters. Then, you can blow out the pipes and use a cleaning mitt to wipe down and clean the inside of the spa. You’ll then put the filters back and refill the tub with new water. The last step here is to add new chemicals and you’ll be ready to soak again in no time. This process will only take about four hours once every four months.
Incorporating enzymes into your spa care routine allows you to enjoy your spa more Enzymes are a natural way to maintain water cleanliness and increase the lifetime of your spa. The gentle properties of enzymes result in no deterioration to your hot tub or irritation to your skin and eyes. It now time to reap the benefits of natural spa water care!
Additional convenient features of Waters Choice enzymes use:
Enzymes are biological agents that reduce the organic load in your tub. The organic load is the buildup of organic material in the tub and plumbing coming from your body as well as algae, bacteria, etc. It can include bodily oils, makeup, deodorant, lotions, dead skin, shampoo and even laundry detergent.
Enzymes function by acting as catalysts to the breakdown of the organic material, thereby reducing the strain on your spa’s filtering equipment and allowing you to use less chemical cleaning agents.
Poorly maintained spa water can lead to clogged filters, circulation pump and heater problems. Overall, your spa runs more efficiently in balanced water and prevents deterioration of pump seals. Enzymes enable you to balance your water more efficiently.
These enzymes are biological in nature and also eco-friendly. Plus you have the added benefit of not worrying about chemical effects on your bathers’ skin or eyes. Reap the benefits of natural spa water care with Waters Choice enzyme treatment.

Relieve stress with a hot tub using Waters Choice enzymes. Soaking in water can aid in stress relief due to the warm temperatures and the ambiance of a moving body of water relaxing the mind and the central nervous system. The hot water also increases circulation, which relaxes muscles and can lower blood pressure through the dilation of blood vessels that occurs. Increasing your body temperature can also help with insomnia by raising the body’s core temperature, which then drops quickly after the spa. When soaking in a hot spa, the last thing you want is to be soaking in harsh spa chemicals. With the Waters Choice system, there are no harsh spa chemicals to potentially irritate your skin. Why not indulge this holiday season by using Aromatherapy to enhance your winter soak? We have five varieties to help you relax, unwind, and soothe aching muscles and joints. Eat, drink, and be merry knowing Waters Choice can make your holidays less stressful.
The holiday season is upon us, and that means it’s time to relax and enjoy some time with your loved ones. Book travel plans as early as possible- The holiday season is a crazy time to travel, and flights, car rentals, hotels, and other travel arrangements book up quickly. Try to make your plans as early as possible, and book your travel arrangements as soon as you can.
Travel as light as possible- Airports during the holidays are usually completely crazy, and you may need to move quickly to get to your next flight. The last thing you need is a bunch of unnecessary luggage to slow you down while running to your gate. Make sure to only bring the necessities when traveling during the holidays.
Leave early- Leave yourself a little bit of extra time to get places during the holiday season to account for crowded roads, airports, train stations, and more. You never know what will be slowed down during the holiday rush, so make sure to give yourself some extra time so you aren’t late.

The fall season is nearly upon us, and that means it is the perfect time to throw an incredible hot tub party with your friends. A hot tub party is the perfect way to spend any crisp fall night, and your guests will have a blast. However, there are some things to consider when throwing a party in your spa to make sure it goes smoothly. Here are some important tips for throwing an amazing hot tub party!
1) Make sure your spa is clean and properly maintained- The first thing you need to do when deciding to throw a hot tub party is to make sure your spa is properly prepared for guests. The last thing you want to do is have guests show up, and realize your hot tub is dirty and not suitable for soaking in. Make sure to properly balance the pH level of the water, remove all debris, and add the right amount of sanitizer to make sure it is ready to go.
2) Prepare the guest list- One important thing to remember about a hot tub party is that you have limited room in the spa, so make sure you do not invite too many people. A huge damper on your spa party can be having guests unable to enjoy the spa, and simply sitting on the deck. Make sure to properly plan out who to invite to your get together, and make sure each guest is fun to be around. Don’t invite people that will bring down the group’s good time.
3) Plan out food and beverages- A good hot tub party definitely needs snacks and drinks! Plan to have some great food available for your guests, and make sure everyone has enough beverages to have fun. Make sure to have some water bottles, non-alcoholic drinks, and if you are serving alcohol, remember that sitting in hot water can cause alcohol to affect the body more rapidly.
4) Prepare non hot tub related activities- Chances are people will not be able to spend the entire length of the gathering in the hot water, so make sure you have some backup activities ready. Also, make sure to provide extra towels and swimsuits just in case guests show up unprepared.
5) Entertainment- A hot tub party should definitely have some background music, and make sure you select songs that are right for the setting. If it is just a few friends gathered for some conversation, pick softer music. If you are planning an all out party then play some dance songs. Be prepared! Another good option for entertainment is to bring the TV outside and have movie night in the tub, or play the game while comfortably soaking! Have fun with it.
When it comes to hot tubs, most of our knowledge consists of ways to keep them properly maintained. We love helping people learn how to keep their spas clean, fresh, and properly balanced. However, in today’s blog entry, we thought we might share a different kind of hot tub knowledge. Here are some Hot Tub Fun Facts You Probably Haven’t Heard Before
1) In 2012, the Guinness Book of World Records confirmed a new record of the most internationally represented spa in history. This hot tub had 26 different individuals, from 26 different countries, all soaking at the same time. The total would have been even higher, but many representatives were turned away because the tub was too full.
2) Hot tubs are popular across the globe. Estimated figures suggest that there are currently over 25 million functioning hot tubs in use around the world. Additionally, at any given time, it is estimated that 17,000 people are currently sitting in a hot tub. That is a lot of relaxation!
3) Hot tubs are fantastic for reducing stress, and improving health. It has been shown in different studies that soaking in the hot tub for 15 minutes every day for a week can help reduce the stress hormone cortisone by over 10 percent in the body. This stress hormone can wreak havoc on your long term health, so get to soaking!
4) Hot tubs aren’t anywhere close to a new trend. People have been soaking in hot tubs for centuries, and early tubs were heated with hot stones. Additionally, people flocked from miles away to a place called Bath in England, just to bathe in their hot springs. These hot springs were first discovered by the Romans as early as 50 AD!
5) People love to party in hot tubs. It is estimated that over 40,000 Champagne bottles are popped inside of hot tubs every single year.
6) Two brothers that were originally aircraft machinists invented the jets used in hot tubs. The Jacuzzi brothers applied their knowledge of airplanes to make jets to keep hot tub water circling. This invention became hugely popular, and this is why the most popular hot tub company is still called, Jacuzzi.

Coming outside to a pristine, clear, and refreshing pool or spa is a great feeling, and a perfect way to enjoy the summer months. On the other hand, coming outside to a green, cloudy, and disgusting looking pool can quickly put you in a bad mood. Unfortunately, swimming pool and spa water turning green is a fairly common issue, and many people struggle to successfully keep their water looking fresh. Here is some advice for what to do to keep your pool or spa from turning green, and to make sure your water is fresh year round.
I know that it can seem like a hassle to keep your pool or spa clean and properly maintained, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Successfully keeping your water clean is a matter of educating yourself on effective practices and products that are proven to work. In this entry we will discuss phosphates, and how the key to keeping your pool or spa from turning green is to keep your phosphate levels in check. Phosphates are essentially a food source for algae, which is why water with a high level of phosphates will have more algae. With more algae in the water, it takes more chemicals and time to keep the algae under control. We recommend that you test your pool for phosphates three times a year- at the beginning of the season when you open your pool or turn on your heater, the beginning of July, and in the middle of August. If your phosphate level goes above 200 parts per billion, then you need to lower the level with a phosphate remover. While initially that may seem like an added cost, in the long run, it will end up saving you time, money, and aggravation. Managing your phosphate levels will greatly increase your pool or spa’s water quality, purity, and overall appearance.
For anyone that has experienced their pool or spa turning green, they know how frustrating it can be to return the water to normal. Luckily, if you follow the steps outlined above, you can keep your pool or spa from experiencing these problems with minimal hassle. We will have your water in pristine condition in no time! (Hint – When was the last time you cleaned your filter?)
There are few things more refreshing than jumping into a crystal clear pool on a hot summer day. Keeping your pool fresh, clean, and beautiful is an important job, and the maintenance work you put in really pays off in the summer. However, what do you do if you come outside one day, and your water has become cloudy and not as appealing as it was previously? Here is some advice to help get you through this tough situation.
If your water is cloudy, a common culprit is not enough filtration. If your water is cloudy, we recommend cleaning your pleated filter or filters at least once per week. Once your water is clear, you can stretch it out to only once or twice a month. Filtration run time is another way to clear cloudy water. Your spa should have the filter cycle run 6 to 8 hours a day if your water is cloudy or if you have very heavy use (such as a party of kids). If you only use your spa once a week or less, you can probably get by with only filtering 2 hours a day. Normal usage should have a filtration cycle of 4-8 hours a day. Please see your owner’s manual on how to change the filter cycle.
For additional help with filtration, we have designed filter savers. This filter media is designed to filter down to 10 microns. This allows us to capture much smaller particulates and clean the water more than two times better than the common pleated filters. This filter media is cloth and is very easy to clean, allowing you to use this filter over and over. Check out our video about filtration here. Don’t let cloudy water ruin your relaxation.
Having cloudy pool water is a frustrating problem, but if you follow these steps, your water should be crystal clear in no time. To learn more about proper pool and spa maintenance, contact us today!
Stress can be good and stress can be bad. Stress can get you motivated into positive action but it can also affect your lifestyle in a negative way.
Stress hormones are released by your body during highly stressful situations and they can cause your cells to age, making you look older. In severe cases, stress can cause diabetes and heart disease which can lead to death.
Knowing how to handle stressful events in your life is key to maintaining your stress level. Stress relief is essential in keeping a healthy mind and body. There are many methods of relieving stress such as taking medications but the safest way is to use natural stress relief options.
The warm water of a hot tub has been shown to help balance your nervous system and to keep it in balance. It is believed that warm water immersion encourages the release of a hormone, dopa-mine. Dopa-mine is released by the parasympathetic nervous system in our bodies to combat the effects of harmful stress.
Aromatherapy relieves stress by using scents that can calm you down. Aromatherapy uses essential oils extracted from plants. These essential oils are the main ingredients used to reduce stress. The scent of essential oils sends messages to the olfactory receptors in your nose, thus soothing your anxiety.
The olfactory receptors are linked in your brain which controls your emotions. Aromatherapy effectively reduces stress by stimulating some chemicals in your brain which makes you feel more relaxed. Check out our wonderful Waters Choice aromatherapy scents. hyperlink
No other natural stress relief options can be more rewarding than taking care of your pet animals and treating them like they are one of your closest friends or even family members. Interacting with your pet after a busy day at work greatly lowers your stress levels. You will get better results in relieving your stress by spending more time bonding with your pet. The most common pets for stress relief are dogs but you can also try other pets that you like such as fish or a cat.
Playing with your pet is one of the best methods for stress relief because it lowers your blood pressure, thus slowing down the production of your body’s stress hormone called cortical which is linked to anxiety and depression. Spending some time with your pet can also increase your body’s production of a hormone known as Oxycontin which is associated with relaxation and happiness. Did you know Waters Choice products are safe for your pets?
