It’s the time of year when most people living in Northern climates have Spring fever and begin to think about swimming. If you have ever gotten to pool-opening season to find that the water in your pool has turned green, know that you can prevent this from happening! Peel the cover back to see how your water is looking. If you are using Waters Choice, your water should be looking crystal clear. If you aren’t on our system and your water isn’t clear, add chlorine to the water to clear it up before it is time to open the pool. Remember with enzymes, you cut out your opening and closing chemicals. BIG savings!
Make sure to add your Waters Choice two weeks before you are ready to swim. When you open your pool or start the enzymes for the first time you add 2 ounces per 10,000 gallons of water the first and second week. Add 1/2 ounce per 10,000 gallons every week during the season.

It is important to watch the PH and alkalinity. They will tend to stay on the higher end of the scale and you will need to bring them down periodically. Maintain pH between 7.2 and 7.6 and alkalinity between 80 and 120. Maintain a minimum amount of chlorine.
We know winter-like weather may still rear it’s ugly head, but Summer is just around the corner. You will be swimming and enjoying the hot temperatures before you know it!
Happen to have a cover for your hot tub? The importance of selecting a proper hot tub cover cannot be stressed enough. Maybe you’re buying your first hot tub and you’re not sure which cover to buy. Or maybe you are replacing an old worn that is worn out, faded, and ugly. Either way, let’s get into some of the details of hot tub covers so you can better select the right hot tub cover for you.
The very first piece of criteria that you will want to look at is the thickness and density of your foam core. Selecting a cover with the appropriate amount of foam is very dependent on where you live. For an indoor hot tub, you can go with the cheapest option. These come with a one pound core that is tapered and goes from four inches at its thickest to two and a half inches at its thinnest. From there, your options gradually increase until you reach the densest core that comes in at two pounds. The thickest part of this core is five inches and tapers down to three inches. You would want this type of cover if you planned on your hot tub being covered in snow at any point.
The next item that you’ll want to look into is the vapor barrier in your cover. The quality of the vapor barrier is a factor to consider when you don’t want water collecting between the material in the foam. When deciding on which hot tub cover you are going to buy, make sure to inquire about the quality of the vapor barrier in your cover. This ensures that your spa is getting the best care available.
The last thing to research when buying your hot tub cover is the vinyl layer itself. This is the outside material of your cover that will have direct contact with the elements. The sun is the number one destroyer of this aspect of the cover, so it is important to make sure that you are purchasing the highest quality possible. This will allow the rest of the components inside of the cover to work to their best ability for as long as possible.
Remember to take your time when selecting your hot tub cover because it is the first line of defense for your spa. If you want your spa to last, make sure that the cover will last just as long. If you have any questions, please call your local dealer and they can send you in the right direction depending on your spa’s needs.
Most pool and spa cleaning products are similar in that they use tons of powerful chemicals to disinfect water. Unfortunately, these harsh chemicals not only harm bad bacteria and viruses, but they also harm our loved ones and us as well! This is what makes Waters Choice so different, unique, and better. Our products use the powerful cleaning power of enzymes to help make sure your water is perfectly clean, while drastically reducing the amount of unwanted chemicals your family is exposed to. Here is some great information about the power of our enzyme treatment for pools and spas.
Enzymes are natural, biodegradable, and organic. Enzymes also break down oils and aid in the filtration process to remove unnecessary metals and minerals. Enzymes leave your water feeling like actual fresh water. Enzymes and Chlorine are a great two-layer sanitation system for swimming pool water, but since enzymes do all the hard work, Chlorine demand goes down to .5-1 PPM (typical chlorine pools operate with 3-5 PPM chlorine). Not only can you keep a smaller residual, it takes a lot less chlorine to do so. Chlorine just simply isn’t being used up as quickly, so swimmers are exposed to much less of it. Our products help make sure your pool and spa water is completely clean, amazingly fresh, fantastically healthy, and amazingly gentle on skin. You will love the way your water feels after using Waters Choice, and swimming in your pool will feel like swimming in a natural spring. You should enjoy swimming in your pool with water that feels like actual fresh water. If you are sick of the way your pool water makes you feel, you need to try out our products. You have tried the other kind of sanitizes, now come see what you have been missing!
The cleaning power of enzymes can be used to make your pool and spa feel incredibly clean, fresh, and amazing. Enzymes are such an amazing tool for pool and spa maintenance because they are effective at cleaning, but also completely natural.
The best pools have enzymes and chlorine. For crystal clear water with a lot less chemicals, use Waters Choice! If you would like to learn more about our fantastic products, contact us today!

Did you know that not everyone closes their pool for the winter? Many people decide to keep their pools open year round, and make sure they are available for use in the colder months A heater for the pool will prolong the enjoyment and benefits of using a pool during the cold months, and help make sure you get to enjoy your investment for longer periods of time. If you decide to keep your pool heated year round so you can use it, it is important to maintain your regular water care maintenance routine that you use during the summer months. Here are some fun ways to incorporate your hot tub into your Halloween party this year to make it a unique and chilling experience. See below for tips to help you throw the best Halloween hot tub party around.
Don’t Horrify Your Guests-Make sure your hot tub is clean
Though you may want to scare your guests on Halloween, you don’t want to scare them out of your hot tub. Make sure you test the water and balance the pH and alkalinity and clean the filter.
Tell people you have a hot tub so that they bring a swimsuit and wear costumes that they can easily change out of. For even more fun, test the creativity of your guests by challenging them to make their swimsuit a part of their costume.
How about transforming your spa into an “Acid Tub” for the evening? Set your lights to green. You can add a submersible green LED light for an even more striking effect. You could hang a “Danger Acid” sign near your hot tub to create the perfect illusion.
Or, how about a large witch’s cauldron where your guests become the missing ingredient. Change your LED lighting to purple and create a sign that reads “Boiling Witch’s Cauldron: Humans Needed”. Place some witch’s hats, brooms and other witch props around the hot tub to reinforce the illusion. Then, watch your spa transform into a cauldron as you take off your hot tub cover and see purple-lit steam float into the sky.
Or, if you really want to spook your guests, turn your hot tub into a “Dead Man’s Pool” for the night. Switch your LED lighting to red and add submersible red LED lights to your water for a more blood-red appearance. Place plastic skeletons, bones, body parts, and skulls on the area around your hot tub. Then, hang a sign that reads, “Dead Man’s Pool: Enter If You Dare”
You could set up a fog machine somewhere in your backyard to create a truly eerie environment. Stick fake tombstones in your grass, lay skeletons on the floor and put rubber snakes, insects and rats in your bushes. You can also cut out bat shapes from black construction paper and hang them in trees, drape fake cobwebs over your bushes and stick motion sensor props near where people will be.
A party isn’t a party without music, and great Halloween tunes can really help set the mood. You could start with mix of Halloween classics like Thriller and Monster Mash and Jaws and Psycho theme songs. As the night progresses, you can play normal party songs or alternate between Halloween classics and traditional party music.
Sickeningly Good Food and Drinks
Some great snack ideas are chips (Bone Shards) and salsa labeled “Blended Man” and guacamole labeled “Blended Frog”. Pinterest has a plethora of ideas. Make sure you have plenty of water available. It is important that guests stay hydrated while soaking in warm water.
Have a Ghoulishly Good Time!

We have all been there before. After a strenuous day working, exercising, or being on your feet, you come home or wake up with extreme soreness. Being sore is a sign that you have exerted your body to its limits, and it can be extremely uncomfortable in severe cases. Luckily, if you own a hot tub, you have a great tool at your disposal to help relieve your soreness, and start recovering more quickly. Here are 4 of the main reasons why a hot tub relieves soreness, and to help you feel better.
1) You are more buoyant and weightless- Throughout the day our joints, muscles, and bones are put under a lot of stress from supporting our body weight, and keeping us upright as we move and work. When you spend a lot of time on your feet, it is natural to become sore from the constant work your body is doing to function. However, when you relax in a hot tub you are much more buoyant, and you will give your body a chance to rest and recover without having to support as much weight. This reduced workload will help you feel better, and relieve some of the soreness you are feeling.
2) Improves blood flow to sore areas- The heat from the hot tub will help increase your circulation, and this added blood movement will help your body recover more quickly. When your body is exposed to the warm water, your blood vessels will begin to dilate, and this is what creates the improved blood flow in the body. This will result in your body healing more quickly, and a much better overall feeling when you are done in the tub.
3) Massage out soreness- In addition to the heat of the water causing better circulation, the movement of the water from the jets can also help you recover from soreness more quickly. The jets of a hot tub are excellent for helping massage your aching body, and this will help you get rid of lactic acid more quickly, and start feeling better in less time.
4) Mental relief- Sometimes when we are feeling sore, much of it is caused by emotional stress, and a sense of being overwhelmed. A hot tub is a great tool to help you relax, reduce your stress level, and just feel much better mentally. This boost in mental wellness will translate to less soreness, and you can continue your day with a better outlook.
Your hot tub is a great tool for relieving soreness, and helping you recover from a hard day. These are some of the top reasons why the hot tub will help you feel better, and why you should make sure to go for a soak when you are feeling sore and beat up. When you are swimming in an unfamiliar pool, it is often a good idea to make sure it is clean before exposing yourself to the water for a long period of time. Many public pools, or private pools are not properly maintained, and this can lead to an unsanitary body of water which can potentially be dangerous. Here are some tips on how to use your 5 senses to detect if a pool is clean.
Smell- While many people think that a pool with a strong chemical smell means it is clean, the opposite is actually true. The strong chemical smell is not caused by chlorine itself, but how it reacts with pollutants. This means that a strong chemical smell in a pool is a sign of lots of pollutants that may be causing a dangerous environment for you to swim in. If you smell an extremely strong chemical smell, stay away from that pool or spa!
Sight- Any pool or spa you are going to enter should have clear, blue water that is free of obvious debris. If pool or spa has a green tint, this is a sign of a pH imbalance that may be leaving the water unsafe to swim in. Also, if you see a large amount of leaves, sticks or other debris, the chances of that pool’s maintenance schedule being neglected are probably high. Make sure to give any pool or spa a good visual inspection before you enter.
Touch- If you start to think a pool or spa may not be as clean as you would like, feel the tiles to make sure they feel smooth, and see if they are clean of algae, dirt, or other pollutants. If the tiles feel dirty, then the pool or spa is unclean also.
Sound- Typically when you are in a clean pool, you will be able to hear the pool equipment working while submerged in the water, or around where the pump is. A lack of sound may indicate a pool that is not being properly maintained.
Taste- Just Kidding! Do not taste the water!
Your senses can help you determine if a pool or spa is clean. We hope that you learned more about how to use your 5 senses to detect if a pool is clean. Make sure to trust your instinct, and avoid bodies of water that you think may be polluted. Also, one of the best ways to avoid a dirty pool is to swim in your own that you know you take care of, so call us today if you would like to learn more about our enzyme treatment products for your pool or spa!
