Your Answers to Naturally Clean, Clear and Safe Pool Water with Less Chemicals

Q – STARTING/OPENING your pool with the NTURAL POOL TREATMENT (enzyme concentrate) (weekly application)

  • Start with clean, clear water.  Let your chlorine level drop to .5 - 1ppm chlorine.
  • Balance & maintain pH & Alkalinity.
  • Maintain .5 - 1 ppm chlorine (usually by keeping 2-3 chlorine pucks in your chlorine feeder set on the lowest setting - adjust as needed).
  • Add 2 oz.of Pool Treatment per 10,000 gallons for the first 2 weeks.
  • The 16 oz. Pool Treatment treats a 10k gallon pool for 1 season.
  • The 32 oz. Pool Treatment treats a 20k gallon pool for 1 season. (We also carry a 1 gallon size.)
  • Then add ½ oz. per 10,000 gallons every week after that throughout the season.
  • No other opening chemicals needed.
  • We do recommend checking for phosphates in the spring, mid-summer, & fall.  Phosphates left unchecked will result in algae growth.
  • To close your pool, simply add 2 oz. of Pool Treatment per 10k gallons 2 weeks in a row to clean water, then close up.  No other closing chemicals needed.

Q -  STARTING/OPENING your pool with PURE ENZYMES for POOLS (monthly application)

  • Start with clean, clear water.  Let your chlorine level drop to .5 - 1 ppm chlorine.
  • Add 1 bottle of Pure Enzymes for Pools (up to 25k gallons).
  • Balance & maintain pH & Alkalinity.
  • Maintain .5 -1 ppm chlorine (usually by keeping 2-3 chlorine pucks in your chlorine feeder set on the lowest setting - adjust as needed).
  • Add another bottle every month after that.
  • 1 bottle treats up to 25,000 gallons of pool water.
  • No other opening chemicals needed.
  • We do recommend checking for phosphates in the spring, mid-summer, & fall.  Phosphates left unchecked will result in algae growth.
  • To close your pool, simply add 1 bottle of Pure Enzymes for Pools to clean, clear water and close up.  No other closing chemicals needed.

Q – CLOSING your pool with the NATURAL POOL TREATMENT (enzyme concentrate)

  • You do not need any other closing chemicals.

Q – CLOSING your pool with PURE ENZYMES for POOLS

  • Add 1 bottle of Pure Enzymes for Pools to clean/clear pool water, then close it up.
  • You do not need any other closing chemicals.

Q – Mid-winter check up

  • It's a good idea to take a look under your pool cover about the month of February.
  • If the pool water looks good, just close it back up.
  • If the water has a tint of green, then add about .5 gallon of liquid chlorine.
  • Check again the next day and add more if needed, until clear. Then close it back up.

Q – Calculating pool capacity in gallons

  • Measure the Length x Width x Depth x 7.5 = your total gallons.

Q: Do I need to use a sanitizer in my swimming pool?

  • Yes, keep your chlorine level between .5 - 1ppm.
  • This is amount is lower than what you would use, if not using enzymes.
  • With enzymes, this usually looks like keeping 2-3 high quality chlorine pucks in your chlorine feeder at the lowest setting.

Q: Do I need to use other chemicals in my pool?

  • You will need to maintain the pH and alkalinity in the normal ranges.
  • Use Muriatic Acid to lower pH and alkalinity in your pool.
  • Use Soda Ash (sodium carbonate) to increase pH.
  • Use Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate), if you need to increase alkalinity.
  • If you live in an area that has high phosphates you may need to add a phosphate remover.  We recommend checking for phosphates in the spring, mid-summer, and fall before closing.

Q: How to use Phosphate Remover

  • If you have a phosphate reading of 200 ppb or more in your pool water, you will need to add a phosphate remover.
  • First, backwash or clean your filter.
  • Then calculate and add the amount of product needed according to the phosphate remover label.
  • Run your filter system for at least 24 hours.
  • If your filter pressure increases 10 psi over normal, clean and backwash filter.
  • Let water sit for 12 hours then retest.
  • Apply again, if needed, following same directions.
  • Vacuum pool floor.

Q: Is it safe to backwash my pool filter onto my lawn? How often should I backwash?

  • Yes, as long as your sanitizer level is below .5 ppm you can backwash directly onto the lawn.
  • How often you back wash should not change much. Follow your manufacturer’s directions. You usually should backwash when your pressure gauge level rises 5-7 lbs above your base line.

Q – POOL water has a tint of GREEN or algae

  • Make sure to keep .5 - 1ppm chlorine in your water.
  • Check for PHOSPHATES.  If more than 200 ppb, add a phosphate remover.
  • Check for NITRATES.  Nothing we know removes nitrates.  If you have a reading of 10 ppm, drain ½ the pool & start over.  If at 20 ppm, drain entire pool & start over.
  • Check for CYANURIC ACID (this is a build up from chlorine tablets). If over 300 ppm, then drain & clean (pressure wash) & refill.

Q – In POOLS, how much Muriatic Acid or Soda Ash do I add to adjust the pH?

  • Check product packaging for directions
